Summer on Salt Spring Island is extraordinary. March 26th to October 31st 9 am to 4 pm Market in the Park Our famous Saturday market is a great opportunity to meet the artists, food producers/vendors, farmers, artisan food makers, musicians and locals of our community. The SPCA also makes sure your dogs are amused and kept safe while you visit the market. See their dog sitting service in Centennial Park behind the market by the washrooms.
May to September Salt Spring Studio Tour A self-guided tour of 28 studios. Meet the artisan and take home a piece of their passion – ceramics, glass, painting, wood, textiles, and more. Free map is available on the Ferries and at the Visitor Centre in Ganges – our downtown.
May to October 6 pm The Treehouse Cafe 101+ Nights of Music Under the Stars begins (Downtown Ganges). From May to October this happening little hub of culture is hosting music every night! Art Spring ~ Our Island Art Centre also has music all summer long and all year long. Check out their shows and get tickets in advance on their website.
June 7th to October 25th Tuesdays 2 to 6 pm Tuesday Farmer’s Market begins at Cenntenial Market and runs to October 27, 2015. Get your farm fresh veggies, fruits, flowers, plant starts right from our farmers. Artisan Foods such as cheese, baked goods, preserves, vinegars, sauerkraut, kale chips, jams, jellies, breads, etc. can all be found mid week at this market. Remember to bring your market bag or basket!
June to September Fridays and Sundays 4 to 6 pm Friday Wine Downs and 2-4pm Sunday Music at Salt Spring Vineyards starting with a Summer Solstice Celebration on the Sunday June 19th with music all day, local food and wine tastings! This fabulous award winning vineyards invites islanders and guests to enjoy music, wine tasting and frolicking among the vineyards. The music and merriment continues up to their final music event at the Annual Harvest Grape Stomp the middle Saturday of October. They are open for free tastings of all-local award-winning wines daily 11-5 and have lovely grounds for picnics. WineDown your week every Friday 4-6 with live music, wine and friends and return again for Sunday Music in the Vineyard -THE place to be Sundays on Salt Spring!
June 10th to September 18th – 10-5 pm ArtCraft – BC’s longest running fine art and craft show and sale of local artisan work. All under one roof at Mahon Hall.
Sundays July to October – 10am to 3 pm Every second Sunday of the Month Xwaaqw’um Culture Days Join local First Nations Elders, community knowledge keepers and others at Xwaaqw’um (Burgoyne Bay) for a day of stories, invasive species removal and indigenous plant gathering, every second Sunday of the month through October.
Bring your garden gloves, pruners and loppers and other handy tools for Ivy, Scotch broom and Hawthorne removal. Bring some lunch, water bottle (fresh water is at the barn) blanket and even your own crafts or a book if you want.
Friday April 22nd – 8 am to 5 pm Earth Day Celebrations and Annual Clean Up at Centennial Park – Live music, scrumptious food, outdoor yoga and tributes to Mother Earth!
Saturday April 23rd Earth Day Film Night – 7:30 Mahon Hall. The film night features shorts followed by a documentary feature film on creating Community Solar and Energy Democracy.
Saturday April 23rd – 1 pm to 3 pm Annual SSI Garden Club Plant Sale at the Farmer’s Institute – 351 Rainbow road. This is the place to see and purchase shrubs, herbs, flowers and veggie plants! Bring a box, they fill up faster than you think!
Saturday April 23rd – All day Community Energy Conference – Learn the latest in energy efficiency and renewable energy news as they apply to our lives on SSI. The day is full of workshops you can attend at the Gulf Island Secondary School on Rainbow Road.
Sunday May TBA 10-3 pm Ruckle Heritage Farm Day, 1801 Beaver Point Road. Old-time skills, great food, games, displays, animals and more at Ruckle Provincial Park. A wonderful family event. You will see demos of spinning, weaving, quilting, basket making, blacksmithing, rope-making, sheep herding and can taste freshly churned ice cream & butter. Children can have their faces painted, try their hand at log sawing or nail hammering, fish for prizes at the fish pond or take part in a tug-of-war! All activities are free. Best to leave dogs at home though.
Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th – Mothers Day Weekend on Salt Spring Island, Our Saturday market is open offering an excellent selection of artisan made clothing, pottery, jewellry, bags, bugs, monsters, hats, soap, candles, jams, jellies, paintings, cards, natural beauty products, chocolates, cheese, cookies, bread, decadent desserts, smoked salmon and fresh farm food. After you buy Mom a gift, you can treat her to a FREE swim on May 8th at our Rainbow Road Pool from 1:30 to 5:30 or take her out for brunch or dinner to one of our fine restaurants.
Friday May 20 to Sunday May 22nd Round Salt Spring Sailing Race 2015 Participants have called the Round Saltspring Race “the best regatta on the coast.” The warm welcome of our Sailing club volunteers, the friendly Salt Spring hospitality, the social events, the food, and the great prizes have all contributed to making this race a favourite for more than 40 years. It’s the always-challenging course that keeps bringing racers back and visitors who love to watch the race!
Friday May 20th to Sunday May 22nd Salt Spring Maylong Soccer Tournament A Full weekend of Soccer! This BC Soccer sanctioned tournament will include Women’s and Men’s competitive and recreational divisions as well as over 30’s for women and over 40’s for men, all of these divisions are dependent on interest for each.
Saturday and Sunday June 18 and 19th – All Day- Salt Spring Sea Capers A two day festival of nautical events such a handmade boat building for adults and wee ones. Adult boats are launched for a race in front of Island Escapades. Kayak and Stand Up Paddle Board races, Kids Zone, Marine boat knot tying, food, music, etc. Centennial Park and Ganges Village
Sunday June 19 -All Day – Father’s Day Bring your Dad to Salt Spring for the weekend. Go for a FREE swim 1:30 to 5:30 in celebration of our Rainbow Road Indoor Pool Birthday Bash. Putter around on the Gulf Course, watch a movie at the Fritz, take an outdoor adventure whale watching tour, go kayaking, hiking or beachcombing. June 24 – 26th – Second Annual Tour Des Isles – A unique opportunity for visitors and island residents to explore the Southern Gulf Islands, their special events, natural beauty and art displays. The tour will offer inexpensive all day inter island boat service between Salt Spring, Galiano, Mayne, Saturna and Pender islands. Courtesy shuttle bus services running from the docks will take passengers to local island restaurants, markets, downtowns, nature trails and golf courses. 250-537-4223
Wednesday July 1st Canada Day Celebrations Join our community as we celebrate Canada’s Birthday. Presented by Thrifty Foods. Birthday cake in Ganges Villages, Entertainment in local venues, Kid Zone in Rotary Park and a Fantastic Fireworks show in Centennial park across Ganges Harbour.
Wednesday July 1st Various Times- Canada Day Car Show and Shine Classic Car Show Our show has been selected as “the Place to be on Canada Day” by many Car Clubs from all over Vancouver Island, BC, so why not come and join us this year and see why. Make it a full weekend and celebrate Canada’s Birthday on SSI, in our favorite way!
July 5th Biketopia Music Festival The Pleasant Revolution is hosting this event with artists: Heather Normandale Trio, Bicicleatas Por La Paz and Luminescent. The sound system is off kinetic energy which is created by the audience riding stationary bikes to create electricity on the spot.
July 14 to 16th Daily ArtSpring Treasure Fair Find yourself among antiques, antiquities and audacious items for sale all weekend long. Islanders have donated the most unique and sometimes wild objects to be hold. All very generous as it is time to fundraise for ArtSpring and we all get behind that! We hope you will too. July 17 to 22nd Various Venues and Times Salt Spring Fiddle Camp and Concerts Each year Salt Spring Fiddleworks holds a fiddle camp on island and at night, the Instructors play music at various locations. A great week of Music!

Monday August 1 to 5th 10 to 12:30 pm daily Annual Children’s Clay Camp at Art By Harrison Studio. Oh the joy of clay between our fingers! This Day Camp is for children 6 to 14. Previous experience with clay is not necessary. All the basics are taught. This year we will be making Fairies and Elves, Fairy/Elf Houses, Minion Egg Cups, Heart Wind Chimes, and of course there is always the MY Choice Day!
Monday August 8th BC Day Weekend A great excuse to come visit Salt Spring for a long weekend and partake of our Saturday market, galleries and shopping opportunities. See our Shopping Directory to find funky, elegant and intriguing shops on island.
August 6-7th All Weekend Long! Second Annual Salt Spring Garlic and Music Festival We are so excited to have this new festival happen again this summer. Check their website for performer, site and ticket information. Kid’s workshops, great food and the usual Salt Spring Spirit will make this a very special event.
August 26, 28 and 29th– All weekend – Salt Spring Island Toy Run An Annual Toy drive weekend of music, beer gardens, artist booths and community spirit at the Farmers Institute (our Fair Grounds). Bring a new unwrapped toy or new cold weather clothing for children. Leather, Kelvar, Denim, Studs, Zippers, Tassels! We don’t care what you wear or what you ride, we just want you to come and have some island style fun with us! Everyone is welcome.
Late August/Early September 7 to 10 pm Firefly Lantern Festival Create lanterns, dress up in fairy costumes, bring musical instruments and put on your tiara for this fun family-oriented event. The procession starts at 7 pm at Centennial Park.
August TBA Fulford Day For the last 26 years Salt Spring has celebrated the Southend of our island at Drummond Park (off Isabella Point Road) with Fulford Day. Everyone welcome to this volunteer organized community event. Kids games and entertainers start the day, with great food being served up. Lamb BBQ, Fresh Corn, Chili and more. The beer gardens open at 11:30 with Gulf Islands Brews on tap, as well as other refreshments. Prizes galore, raffles and 50/50 draws and lots of fun to be had all day long. Enjoy the park, the beach and the free admission. Bring your fiends, kids and even your friends’ kids! Beach blankets, toys, kites, sunscreen, cameras and community spirit. All proceeds to support the Fulford Day Society, non profit organization that puts money back into the community.
